Do you struggle with weight, digestive issues, food intolerances, low energy, etc.? Are you constantly searching for answers to your health woes only to get "taken" by one promising doctor or program after another? Have you spent hundreds or even thousands of dollars and STILL have NO anwers?
Nothing really pictures health for me like a happy person throwing their arms up in the air, all smiles and exressing their joy and satisfaction against the backdrop of a lovely blue, summer sky. I've longed to be that person. Getting healthy is surely a journey, one that I am still on. I've been to so many doctors and practitioners, literally spent tens of thousands of dollars and when I wasn't getting anywhere, I decided I needed to figure out the answers myself. I enrolled in a natural health school and earned my degree in Traditional Naturopathy. Now, I am slowly applying what I've learned and the big goal for me now is not so much losing weight as it is getting my body healthy.
Health is something that escapes many of us. For me, it's been a long journey. Being overweight since highschool, I wanted to get back in shape. After three children, I found myself about 60 more pounds over my high school weight and I really needed to get it off. I didn't want to be an overweight mama with little children who needed me to be able to play with and keep up with them. I tried a low-carb diet and lost quite a bit but then strange things started happening to me. I was extremely tired and dizzy all the time; my blood sugar was way too low. Sometimes I felt like I was dying and would beg God to help me. I'd feel a sudden "whoosh" in my body and everything would return to normal. It was horrible! Insomnia set in nightly, for years! I tried to straighten out my body by trying a multitude of supplements and diets or diet methods like raw-vegan, proper food combining, high-protein, gluten-free... you name it.
What I found is that all of the diets worked. Yes, that's right! I said, they WORKED! Every diet I went on, I lost at least 10 pounds and with some I even gained back incredible, vibrant energy. So what went wrong? Why didn't I stay on those diets? Simply because the unrealistic restriction started taking its toll; the positive effects were short-lived. For some reason, what worked at the start, wasn't effective anymore and strange NEW symptoms started appearing. So the diets worked in the SHORT-term but I was trying to make these diets a lifestyle... and that did NOT work. Plus, it seemed my body was compiling all these new symptoms with every passing diet fad I went on. I felt horrible! Eventually I began to realize, our bodies are made a certain way and each person's individual needs are unique to them and unique to the situation they are in. What's right for a single male runner living in the mountains is not going to be right for a mama taking care of little ones on a hobby farm. I don't need as much protein or as much exercise as someone who wants to appear on American Ninja, so why should I eat or workout the same as her? One-size diets don't fit all and I needed something that was right for me.
Our weight has a profound effect on our health, and our health has a profound effect on our weight. We seek for the perfect body like explorers of old searched for cities of gold. We'll lay down almost any amount to get the coveted condition from a pill, supplement, or program. We have been shnookered into believing that weight loss and health have to be NOW, FAST, and EASY, but at the same time, we are told we have to work very, very hard at the gym getting 30 - 90 minutes of some kind of hot, sweaty exercise in several times a week, if not daily. We've been told we have to follow a very strict regimen of high-protein shakes, little to no carbs (especially wheat-free/gluten-free carbs); we've been told to drink half our weight in ounces of water and we are suppose to spend hundreds of dollars or more in man-made supplements every month in order to get our health back.
I am guilty. I've spent thousands and thousands of dollars on many different plans, supplements, and programs... and I'm done. Following advice from the diet guru's of the day has gotten me nowhere. I followed their carefully laid out rules to the letter and ended up with terrible insomnia, eczema, nausea, joint pain, regained weight, extreme fatigue, vertigo, and so on. So I threw it all in the trash and decided to just do what I know is real and what actually works...
What is it, you ask?
It's simply this, that God has a design for man-kind and if we follow it, no matter what our circumstances or unique needs are, we will achieve the kind of health that is right for us wherever we are at in life. The basic human formula for health is to eat real food (not man-made food) on a daily basis and to move our bodies as much as we can in a way that energizes, uplifts and strengthens us. We need good rest and sleep, time with God, time in nature, time to soak up a little sun and time to breathe fresh air. We need to have fun, to laugh, to have goals and dreams, and satisfying work. That's it. A few very simple things almost all of us are perfectly capable of. We can all choose these things with little to no resistance from anyone. Our lives really are what we make of them. Our choices in life lead us to great health or ill health. If you are an athlete, eating what is right for your energy expenditure is right. If you are gluten-intolerant or lactose intolerant, eating what is right for you until your body heals, is right. If you are overweight, tired, sluggish, eating quality amounts of wholesome foods and moving your body in whatever way pleases you, is right. If you are elderly, eating however nourishes and sustains you and keeps you healthy is right. What is "wrong" is eating unnatural, man-made, processed foods that deplete your energy reserves and robs you of essential nutrients destroying the integrity of your digestive system.
The answer is in nourishing ourselves with whole foods and supplements, restoring gut integrity, the ability to detoxify, and de-stressing our lives. But how do you go about it? How does one eat healthy when you're so pressed for time and the demands of life are just too... well, demanding! How do you know what supplements you need when there are thousands of products on the health food store shelves? You barely know where to begin! And how can you find answers without breaking the bank? This is why I have started Every Good Path Holistic Health Consultations.

Every Good Path Holistic Health Consultations are for the whole family... I started helping others with simple home remedies almost two decades ago and have lots of good old fashioned remedies for the family. Rashes and bee stings were easily eradicated with a plantain poultice. Fevers fled away with a few teaspoons of Elderberry & Peppermint syrup. Tooth infections resolved with a bit of garlic. A bout of exhaustion immediately fled after the use of the homeopathic remedy, Arnica Montana. A little girl unable to sleep from an itchy rash finally found rest with a touch of apple cider vinegar. Having learned to use God's wonderful healing methods for simple health issues, I can guide you to alternative healing methods that are effective, inexpensive, and saves an unnecessary trip to the clinic.
I also enjoy helping others develop natural healing protocols for themselves using a form of Applied Kinesiology (or Muscle Response Testing). With this approach, we can identify problem areas without expensive and time consuming tests and then apply natural remedies for correction. As a naturopath, I am a coach and a guide who can assess one's health and recommend natural and herbal products. I do not diagnose, prescribe or treat, as that is the business of those in the traditional medical field and I do not advocate anyone to dismiss any necessary medical treatment.
A visit with me includes filling out a questionnaire (which is completed and reviewed beforehand) and then discussing at length all health-related issues so as to understand the body's condition as best as possible. A protocol using herbs and other natural remedies and methods is developed for the client to follow for a period of time and then a re-assessment is done. I believe in educating and empowering my clients about what is happening in their own body and encourage them to take full responsibility for their own health. I like to keep things simple and inexpensive. Healing is a journey which takes time and patience. I am still on my own healing journey and have quite a way to go. Having someone alongside you as you go is a must and as I work with my clients and see their successes, I am encouraged to keep going myself, so I make myself available for questions and encouragement at any time during their journey.
For a consultation, please contact me and I will be happy to talk with you!
